The local area

Moulin de Campech is ideally situated to explore the region of Aquitaine, and in particular the Department of Lot et Garonne. The local area is dominated by Bastide towns, these are fortified villages and towns built by both the English and the French, dating as far back as the 12th century. There are many towns and villages waiting to be explored, the smaller offering peace and tranquillity, while the larger towns offer regular markets and good shopping. The local market days normally prove to be the busiest time of the week for many of the local towns and they are characteristically French, catering for the local population and almost always provide a wide range of local produce.

Casteljaloux is our nearest town, 10km from the campsite. As well as its twice weekly market, there is also the Thermal Spa and Lakeside beach. You will also find good size supermarkets, bars, restaurants, chemist, post office, banks etc. Visit Casteljaloux tourist office website for more

There are many high quality local wines and Armagnac producers where you can sample the products. The nearest wine caves are at Buzet-sur-Baise, Leyritz-Moncassin and Cocumont whilst there are many more within easy reach.

The Armagnac region, beginning at Nerac and extending to the south. There are many distilleries of varying sizes producing a product that many people believe to be far superior to the more famous Cognac. A day trip through the extremely attractive Armagnac region, perhaps enjoying a meal and a tasting session can prove be a very pleasant day out.
